A modern, low-rise hotel featuring capsule-style dorms plus a host of amenities in the Queenstown CBD
Backpackers and beyond
We provided project management expertise for the planning, design and construction of this centrally located backpacker hotel. Comprising a total of 247 beds and a roof top bar, the design incorporates JUCY's innovative pod-style accommodation units as well as traditional rooms with ensuites.
Building in the heart of the city
This project was developed on a fast-track programme. Our role included project managing the demolition of the existing building and managing construction of the new building on a very difficult site in the Queenstown CBD. A key client priority was to deliver the project with the least impact possible on the surrounding buildings, businesses and people. Working conditions were very difficult, with the hotel situated on a tight and busy corner in the city centre, subject to constant traffic and pedestrian flow.
Working closely together with a very good contractor we managed the challenges of large pre-cast concrete panel delivery and concrete pours, amongst a myriad of other major and minor details, to help deliver an attractive building on time and on budget.
Points of interest
- The hotel features innovative ‘JUCY Pods’ – private spaces within a shared room that can be completely enclosed for quiet and privacy.
- Internal and external communication was key for a smooth running project given the centrally located site, and the high number of logistical constraints.
- We were instrumental in the decision made early in the project to demolish the existing building rather than attempt a partial re-build. This reduced the client’s risk and delivered a better end product.
