A new and exciting entertainment centre in the heart of Christchurch’s CBD
Bringing the city to life
Calder Stewart Development, together with Hoyts, created this visionary centre – a state of the art seven-cinema complex with a 15m atrium foyer and ground floor hospitality.
All stations go
As seconded Project Managers we provided construction management and co-ordination of the ground floor fit-out, plus tenancy co-ordination for the 13 eateries. This included managing a tight internal site and changing access routes weekly to allow the ground floor fit-out to be completed as scheduled, whilst not impeding the food tenancies and cinema fit-outs.
Another, even more complex issue facing our project team was the installation of the feature lighting in the main atrium. Consisting of 3000 individual light fittings, installation required a birdcage scaffold of the entire 15m high atrium – all the while managing coordination of the base build, ground floor fit-out and five tenancy fit-outs underway at the same time.
Points of interest
- The feature lighting, consisting of 3000 individual light fittings with 1000 of those fittings lit with LEDs, is of international design and manufacture.
- EnTX’s brick street façade uses bricks recycled from Christchurch following the earthquakes, with our role including selection of the bricks, procurement and management of the laying.
- The reclaimed timber atrium feature wall extends from the first to third floor balustrade and incorporates a massive ‘HOYTS’ logo television screen.
- Located on an innercity block in the heart of Christchurch, the premise is ultimately ‘locked in’ by the surrounding streets. This presented significant constraints not only for physical construction but also for deliveries, materials storage and worker access.
