A fast tracked programme for luxury hospitality at the iconic Gibbston Valley Winery
A five-star project
Home to some of the oldest Pinot Noir vines in Central Otago, Gibbston Valley has a unique and long-standing legacy. Our challenge was to bring this rich history into the future, with a development compromising of five-star cottage accommodation, a lodge restaurant and bar, a wine cellar, a media room and a private spa.
Bringing a team together
This exciting project saw us working closely with the client and consultant team to oversee the detailed design, procurement, construction and cost-management phases of the build. We worked to meet a fast-tracked programme, one which challenged the design and construction teams to meet tight deadlines.
The project was complex in that the lead contractor was only responsible for some of the works completed onsite, meaning we were also working alongside a number of other contractors managed and coordinated directly by us and the client. This challenged us to foster a collaborative approach among the various groups, fueled by strong communication and ultimately leading to a spectacularly successful end result.
Points of Interest
- The project required staged consents and progressive subcontractor tendering.
- There were three main contractors onsite for construction, earthworks, services and roading as well as another 40+ independently managed suppliers and contractors.
- Strong communication was required to manage high health and safety standards between the multiple parties working onsite.
