A brand new classroom block and refreshed administration facilities mark another milestone in the school’s long legacy
Improvements for students and staff
Set across several stages of works, this project included a new classroom block with flexible learning spaces, as well as refurbishment of the school’s administration block. We were engaged during the feasibility stage to work with the architect and address the brief, which was to provide additional classroom space and to improve the existing administration facilities. We worked with the architect, DLM, to develop a solution and, once the funding was approved, managed the whole project through to a successful conclusion.
Working step by step
The school is relatively small and is on a constrained site, so the works had to be staged. A relocatable classroom was required to temporarily relocate staff and students. The new, two storey classroom block was constructed in the heart of the school, requiring a dedicated managed access road that bisected the site. Once the classroom block was completed, the administration block was then refurbished and a power upgrade was implemented.
Points of interest
- An existing three-classroom building was demolished in order to make way for the new two storey five-classroom block.
- The school began in 1921, with classes for 16 pupils held in the downstairs rooms of the original convent, an elegant two-story villa later destroyed by fire.
- Today the school roll stands at approximately 240 students, with 19 permanent staff, several part time staff and five support staff.
