Providing community members with a new level of care in a safe and compassionate environment
120 years of care
Nurse Maude is a charitable organisation founded in 1896 that provides nursing, homecare and support. Following settlement of its insurance claim in 2013, the organisation was in a position to redevelop its hospital facilities including refurbishment of a Grade II Listed Heritage Building and construction of a new utilities block, aged care hospital and palliative care facility.
Aligning hearts and minds
We have provided Nurse Maude with a full range of project management services tailored to meet their specific needs, including master planning assistance, briefing, design, procurement and construction activities. Key projects have included the $3m restoration of the heritage listed McDougal House, and the development of a 70 bed, $18m aged care hospital.
With careful oversight and a sound understanding of the client’s objectives we were able to set forth a strategic redevelopment plan that maximised both site value and clinical services provided. As a charitable organisation, high levels of cost control were an absolute must. We worked in conjunction with the project quantity surveyor to develop a robust budget that was continually monitored and adjusted as required. Site specific challenges included working around a natural waterway and protected trees, dealing with ground contamination and managing the sensitive upgrade of a listed heritage building.
Points of interest
- Our services include role as Engineer to the Contract under NZS3910:2013 and the administration of all consultant contracts.
- We employed night works and other planning strategies in consultation with contractors to enable construction activities within an operational and residential environment.
- Challenging ground conditions were identified during the planning phase. We oversaw the design and installation of an innovative ground improvement solution known as Rammed Aggregate Piles. These were a cost and time efficient solution that negated the requirement for excavation-heavy traditional piling techniques.
