Supporting the convergence of film production, game development and cross reality
The digital screen sector is growing globally, and exciting new connections are being made across disciplines, in areas including film production, game development, location based experiences, the metaverse and more. There's a huge need to educate and develop the talent needed for these industries to grow and UC’s Digital Screen will become the space to nurture that talent.
The Dovedale campus is being developed into the Digital Screen Campus (DSC), this will provide a vibrant environment specifically geared towards commercial production and development facilities, education, innovation and research.
Once complete, the site will host full-service, commercial-standard production facilities on a single site benefiting local and international production projects of all sizes and attracting creative talent to Waitaha Canterbury and Aotearoa New Zealand, while expanding UC's teaching and research capabilities in Digital Screen Production.
Rubix is project managing the project which will take place in three phases. Phase one involves the refurbishment of existing buildings on Dovedale campus, and started in 2022. The later phases involve the construction of new facilities, this is estimated to take place between 2024 and 2026, following design and consenting.
