Toitū Climate Positive

Sustainability and reducing our carbon footprint is an area of our business we are very passionate about, we have recently appointed Peter Sewell as our National Sustainability Lead, to help us focus and reach our reduction goals. As a team we are committed to working in an environmentally, socially and economically sustainable way. Our stated ambition is “To journey with our clients to realise projects that improve lives and landscapes” and our sustainability aspirations support this ambition. We make a difference by ensuring our actions are sustainable, and by supporting our clients and stakeholders to further their sustainability goals.

Rubix has been a Toitū Net Carbon Zero certified business since 2017. In 2023 we raised the bar higher by achieving Toitū Climate Positive certification, which goes beyond carbon neutrality to make a positive impact on society. We have accurately measured our emissions, and put in place strategies to manage, reduce and offset our impacts set against best practice science-aligned targets that will achieve NZ’s emissions targets and commitments. We have increased our offset emissions through verified carbon credits to achieve a carbon positive impact. In addition, we have made a further ‘impact contribution’ that supports society’s transition to a zero carbon future and we are supporting various community projects, including WAI Wānaka and Matuku Link.

We are continually educating and training our team to ensure that they understand our sustainability goals and industry best practice with regard to sustainable design principles. We have several NZGBC Green Star Practitioners in the team, and most of our project management staff are trained as NZGBC Green Star Accredited Professionals. We use this knowledge to encourage our clients to adopt sustainable design principles such as green building initiatives (e.g. Green Star Certification, Living Building Challenge), consider Zero Carbon and implement waste management practices. Rubix are active members of the New Zealand Green Building Council and regularly attend their events.
