Creating attractive affordable housing for the residents of Queenstown Lakes District
A place to call home
Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust is a not-for-profit local organisation for community housing. This project encompassed the construction of 11 design-build dwellings at Riverside Park and an additional two dwellings at Northlake, all with the ultimate mission of providing eligible low-to-middle income households with secure accommodation.
In this role Rubix were engaged to review the designs and the budgets sourced by the client. Based on this review we provided a detailed tender report and subsequently supported the Client in engaging the Contactor under a negotiated contract. From there, we managed the entire project through consenting, procurement, construction and close out.
An innovative edge
In order to ensure maximum efficiency over the course of this project, the contractor utilised an innovative ceiling construction system. This system comprises of a 32mm thick tri-board that forms a ceiling with minimal joints, thus creating a bracing diaphragm that provides a ‘floor’ to support the construction of the roof.
Points of interest
- Use of raft slabs and an innovative ceiling system ensured a quick project turnaround could be achieved.
- Creation of duplex units alongside standalone dwellings helped to maximise the capacity of the section.
- We addressed all angles in order to enable the client to create compact, affordable housing that is also attractive and functional.
