Bringing our client’s dream home to life
A view to behold
This large private residence, designed by renowned Otago Architects, Mason & Wales, will occupy a prime site within Wyuna Preserve overlooking Lake Wakatipu with views to the Dart & Rees Rivers and Mt Earnslaw. The design includes a series of pavilion buildings utilising local stone, recycled hardwood and cedar with large windows framing the ‘million dollar’ views.
Involved from the outset
We were engaged as Project Manager at approximately the same time our clients purchased the section. We are managing all phases including engagement of consultants, resource consent, design review board approval, building design and consent, procurement of contractors as well as construction.
With speed being one of the key requirements of the client, we staged the building consents. As soon as approvals were received, we engaged the civil contractor and managed the drilling, blasting, and bulk excavation required to prepare the site. Furthermore, with construction in the region booming, our client wanted us to investigate options for bringing in contractors, sub-contractors and suppliers from further afield, which has seen us overcome additional travel, accommodation and logistics issues.
Points of interest
- Site preparation required 12m deep excavation into rock in some areas to accommodate the home’s foundations.
- The client has set sustainability targets for the home, including using ‘Ground Source Heat’ through 10 separate holes bored 100m deep into rock.
- Major lead-times have been required to secure products including some direct from Europe, specialist windows (Thermadura) and recycled hardwoods.
