Helping UC meet their fossil fuel free goal for a low emissions future
UC has committed to becoming fossil fuel free by December 2025. To achieve this goal requires the replacement of it's coal fired boilers. Funding for the boiler replacement will come from University sources in conjunction with monies from the “Government Investment in Decarbonising Industry” (GIDI) fund.
Rubix is working with the University team to identify the most suitable option to replace the coal fired boilers, at the same time as investigating potential building fabric and thermal insultation upgrades to improve energy efficiency.
Rubix will manage the implementation of works once the preferred options have been identified, and ensure integration with the large digital campus project that Rubix is also managing for UC.
Sustainable solutions for the future
- Air source and ground source heat pumps recommended as the preferred options
- Likely to be a mix of centralised and decentralised plant
- The solution will include cooling to counter increasing global temperatures and ensure a quality environment for teaching and learning
