Creating a spiritual heart for future generations
Rubix supported Dilworth School in delivering St Patrick’s Chapel, a new chapel, community facility, and spiritual and cultural landmark on the Epsom campus, completed in 2025. Designed by Jasmax, the chapel blends heritage-sensitive architecture with contemporary performance, creating a welcoming environment for worship, reflection, and community gathering.
Scope and Project Leadership
Building on a long-standing relationship with Dilworth School, Rubix provided project management services for St Patrick's Chapel as part of the campus's ongoing development, following several successfully completed projects.
The project delivered a purpose-built chapel and community facility, including a 765-seat main nave, minor chapel, kitchen, offices, and supporting amenities, creating a central space for worship and community use.
Rubix provided project management services across the full lifecycle, leading programme, risk, procurement, and stakeholder coordination within an operational school setting.
Challenges and Delivery Approach
Construction within a live school environment was managed through staged works, controlled access, and proactive communication to maintain safety and minimise disruption to ongoing school operations.
The chapel's complex ceiling geometry required a high level of coordination between structure, services, and architectural intent. BIM-led clash detection enabled early resolution of buildability issues and supported efficient delivery.
Specialist procurement, particularly for the musical organ and pipe façade, required careful sequencing and early engagement due to limited supplier availability.
Sustainability, Cultural Integration and Outcomes
Sustainability and stewardship were central to the project, reflecting both environmental and social outcomes. Existing mature trees were retained, durable materials were selected to reduce lifecycle costs, and onsite stormwater solutions, including rain gardens and soak holes, were integrated into the landscape design.
Close collaboration with stakeholders ensured the chapel reflects Dilworth's cultural and spiritual values, with modern building systems discreetly integrated to preserve the building's character. Completed on time and within budget, St Patrick's Chapel now serves as a lasting spiritual and community hub for Dilworth School, supporting worship, reflection, and community connection for future generations.
