Expanding a growing Catholic learning community in Drury
Rubix supported the Catholic Diocese of Auckland in delivering Stage 2 of St Ignatius of Loyola Catholic College, continuing the development of the college’s masterplanned campus in Drury. Completed in time for the 2026 school year, Stage 2 extends the high‑quality learning environments established in the first stage and supports the increasing scale and complexity of the school community.
Scope and Project Leadership
Stage 2 delivered a new three‑storey teaching block providing approximately 5,000sqm of modern learning space. The building includes classrooms, performing arts facilities, pastoral care areas and expanded administration spaces, and is physically connected to the existing Stage 1 facility to create a coherent campus entrance and integrated learning environment.
The works also included new external playing courts, expanding opportunities for outdoor learning and recreation. Rubix continued its involvement on the project, working closely with the client and consultant team to support coordinated planning and delivery.
Challenges and Delivery Approach
Delivery of Stage 2 required careful coordination alongside an operational secondary school campus. Strong collaboration between the client, design team and contractor underpinned the project from early design development through to completion.
A partnership‑based approach, focused on open communication and shared objectives, enabled the team to integrate the new facilities with existing campus infrastructure while maintaining continuity of school operations throughout delivery.
Sustainability and Outcomes
Stage 2 builds on the sustainable design principles established across the wider campus, delivering adaptable and efficient learning spaces that support long‑term performance. The new teaching block incorporates features that promote occupant comfort and reduce reliance on mechanical systems, including strong connections to courtyards and external circulation spaces that support natural airflow and passive design strategies.
Completed in time for the 2026 school year, Stage 2 delivers a high‑quality and resilient education facility that strengthens campus cohesion and supports the continued growth of the St Ignatius of Loyola Catholic College community.
