The construction of brand new office spaces for the Queenstown airport administration team
A time for change
Queenstown is one of New Zealand’s most popular tourist destinations, attracting more than 2.3 million passengers to the airport each year. With the busy 2014 winter season fast approaching, we were engaged to assist in the development of new office spaces within the existing terminal building. These timely renovations would ultimately allow the previous offices to be converted into a new airport lounge for travellers, while also providing an updated working space for airport staff.
An innovative approach
This project saw us working closely alongside the architect and airport management team, from development through to full design, procurement, and construction. As the airport continued to operate throughout the build, we were challenged to provide innovative staging solutions to ensure minimal disruption to staff and travellers.
Points of Interest
- Clever utilisation of an existing internal space without the need to extend the building externally, with the associated significant cost savings.
- Allowed re-purposing of the existing office space to a customer lounge generating significant revenue for the airport.
- Maintaining regular terminal operations and passenger flow during construction was essential.
