Bringing future and past together at this leading New Zealand boarding and private school
Building for the future
We were appointed by the Medbury School Trust Board in 2017 to provide full project management services for a new teaching building, called the Foundation Building. Our role was to work with the school and Trust Board while managing a consultant team to develop the project’s design and procurement strategy. We successfully procured the contractor and acted as Engineer to Contract during the construction phase, through to successful completion in early 2019.
Respecting the past
The Foundation Building is located in a tightly constrained heritage setting, between the historic Ballantyne House and Waimairi Stream. As such, it was essential that the design would be sympathetic to its surroundings. We managed the smooth delivery of all resource and heritage consent requirements with the Christchurch City Council, in coordination with the architect and consultant team, to ensure a smooth journey through the project phases and an end result respectful of the historic setting.
Points of interest
- The Foundation Building is the second teaching building we have delivered for Medbury School, and is the second phase of their overall master plan.
- The Foundation Building is an open and inviting space in which to teach and learn, with four classrooms and supporting breakout and amenities areas over two levels.
- Key design features include external vertical aluminium louvres, coffered ceilings, and a feature entry wall engraved with the school values.
Award winning
