We are managing a number of planned and parallel projects to help the Port realise its 30-year vision for the future
From catastrophe to opportunity
Lyttelton Port Company (LPC) is the major deep-water port in the South Island and is a crucial player in the region’s economy. Having been hit with extensive earthquake damage, LPC published its Port Lyttelton Plan in 2014. This sets out the company’s vision for recovery and long-term transformation in order to meet the freight needs of the future.
Hands on deck
Having worked with LPC for over a decade, we currently have staff in key roles within LPC’s project management team reporting directly to senior LPC staff. Our team members lead the delivery of capital projects spanning the full range of operations and include activities over the full life cycle of projects, from feasibility and business case preparation, through to delivery and handover of complete assets.
Key projects include: managing design and procurement activities for LPC’s capital dredging programme; procurement and delivery of specialised equipment including two container cranes, environmental monitoring buoys, tugs and pilot boats; business case preparation, design and delivery of a new 170-berth floating marina and landside facilities; managing the development of the 27Ha Midland Port freight terminal project; design and construction management of LPC’s new reclamation; plus a range of wharf repair, civil works, and services infrastructure projects across the port.
Points of interest
- The majority of LPC’s assets sustained considerable damage in the earthquakes. We helped LPC through a considerable period of damage and repair assessment to support the settlement of its insurance claim in 2013.
- Project delivery within an operating port requires extremely careful planning and stakeholder engagement, plus regular and accurate communication with a range of users and affected parties within and outside of the port.
- All projects delivered by LPC are subject to rigorous health, safety and environmental requirements. We work closely with consultants and contractors to ensure projects are delivered safely and to the high environmental standards required.
