Bringing the client, loss adjustor and village residents along on a successful journey
It takes a village
Elmswood Retirement Village is a 100+ bedroom aged care facility made up of a rest home, hospital, villas, serviced apartments and studios. The 2010 Christchurch earthquake and subsequent aftershocks caused structural and cosmetic damage to the entire village. Primarily tasked with reinstating the earthquake damaged facilities, our appointment includes staging the project to minimise impacts in a live operating environment, maintaining maximum occupancy, and ensuring the safety of all vulnerable residents.
Teamwork enables success
Before we came onboard, the project had stagnated for eight years due to misalignment between the loss adjuster’s and Elmswood’s objectives. We facilitated a process to foster greater understanding between the two parties. Thanks to a proactive approach, proficient communication and transparency we gained unanimous approval on procurement strategies, established the project team and commenced construction, all within a year of our appointment.
Points of interest
- The main rest home building was subjected to four extensions over 25 years, with each wing containing bespoke construction methodologies and remediation challenges.
- In parallel with the remediation work, Elmswood is undertaking various additional works to improve the facility.
