My journey with the Keystone Trust began in 2006 when I became their first Bayleys Real Estate Key Sponsor Scholarship recipient. That support didn't just help me through my studies – it opened doors, created connections, and ultimately shaped my career path. Today, as a Trustee and Chair of the Alumni Committee, I'm passionate about ensuring other young people have the same opportunities I was given.
I'm particularly proud of the recent partnership between Rubix. Peter Chudleigh, the Managing Director of Rubix, understood immediately why this partnership matters. As he puts it, "The Trust's work is vital in supporting young rangatahi to realise their potential."
This collaboration represents more than funding – it's about creating pathways for the next generation of property and construction professionals. Rubix became a Trust's Key Scholarship Partner, providing not just financial support but mentorship and real-world experience that's invaluable for students entering our industry.
The challenges facing young people today are different from those we faced nearly two decades ago. While our industry has evolved significantly becoming more diverse and innovative – new obstacles have emerged. Students face tremendous pressures, and the industry is struggling with capacity issues. The Trust's scholarships are strategically designed to provide support at the most challenging transition points in a young person's life. The school leaver scholarships assist students as they transition from school to tertiary education, with a high proportion being first in their families to pursue higher education. Our Key Partnership Scholarships then provide crucial support as students complete their studies and enter their professional careers.
The Rugby Lunch isn't just a fundraising event, or a free lunch. It is so much more – it's an opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals who understand the importance of giving back. It is support that helps ensure that talented young people, regardless of their background, can access the education, mentorship, and opportunities they need to succeed.
Together, we can continue building an industry that's not only more diverse and innovative but also more supportive of the next generation of leaders. If you or your organisation would like the opportunity to help champion the future leaders of property and construction in Aotearoa, please visit the Keystone Trust.
